The 19th HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition) attracted a record 2,670 exhibitors from 38 countries and regions, including first-time exhibitors from Denmark and South Africa. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong International Outdoor and Tech Light Expo returned in its second edition from 26-29 October at the AsiaWorld-Expo. The latest products from 410 exhibitors from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan were on display during the four day fairs. Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the twin lighting fairs form the world’s largest lighting marketplace, offering a wide variety of smart and green lighting productsfor buyers across the world. The HKTDC organised 78 buying missions through its overseas offices, inviting more than7,600 buyers from 60 countries and regions to visit and source from the parallel fairs.

Companies in the Indian lighting market continue to show keen interest in the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair. What is quite noticeable is the quality of Indian companies (both on the exhibitor and the visitor side) visible at the show, and their image of the positioning of the fair. Said Mr.Gaurav Trigunayak, Astt.General Manager, LED Lighting at Havell’s India,’We are here to look at IoT (Internet of Things) technology and smart lighting solutions. At Havell’s, we keep on expanding our product offerings in tune with the emerging global trends. This show continues to be one of the most important lighting shows for us and it acts as a strong reference point to see which direction the trends and technology is going to take over the course of the year.’
Confirmed Mr.Sanjay Jain, Vice-President (Marketing) at Neokraft, an Indian manufacturer of decorative lights which exhibited at the fair, ‘We are supplying to some of the best retailers in the world, including IKEA, Lowes, etc. We see the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair as one of the top quality lighting shows in the world, and the one that attracts the cream of buyers and suppliers. We made a good decision by deciding to exhibit at the fair. We will definite come back next year as an exhibitor.’ Neokraft is also looking at going aggressively in the Indian market. Till now, the company had primarily been into exports.
Mr.Surendra K.Bohra, Director, Kaiyaan, one of the most prominent lighting retailer in Chennai was at the fair looking for quality manufacturers in the niche decorative lighting business. Explained Mr.Bohra,’ We are already tied-up with EGLO India Pvt.Ltd., and have one of the most exhaustive display of EGLO product range in our showroom in Chennai. We are very happy with EGLO’s product range, quality and price points. We are here at the Hong Kong Lighting Fair to identify products that are outside the purview of EGLO, like fans.’ Interestingly, at this year’s fair, many exhibitors showcased their fans fetauring integrated lights. Added Mr.Bohra,’This fair is a must attend for us to keep ourselves updated on the latest developments on the technology side of products.’
As the Indian market continues to cater to it’s strong domestic demand, driven primarily by it’s infrastructural development, all stakeholders in the value chain – Architects, Interior Designers, Builders, Developers, Manufacturers and Retailers can have many takeaways from fairs like the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair. And the quality of visitors and exhibitors from India at this year’s show goes on to prove that the Indian market is well-positioned to absorb the best of interior solutions the world has to offer.
